Goals:
Purchase a folding box for all of my book materials. complete
I ended up going with a plastic file box. I purchased a package of folding boxes as well, but I’m going to take those back I think, though perhaps not. They might come in handy down the road. We’ll see.

“I practiced guitar a minimum of 10 minutes a day this past Monday thru Friday.”

  • “I practiced bass a minimum of 10 minutes a day this past Monday thru Friday.”
  • “I practiced trombone a minimum of 10 minutes a day this past Wednesday thru Friday.”

All of the above statements are accurate, with the following exceptions: I didn’t practice bass on Friday. The .jpg below captures my actual times. Thursday’s practice isn’t captured, because I did my trombone & guitar practice at school, and practiced my bass late Thursday night but didn’t log it. I’m trying not to get to hung up on the logging of my time… just the consistency.

  • “I worked on my book a minimum of 30 minutes on Wednesday & Friday.

I didn’t work on the book during the week at all, but ended up spending a good chunk of time working on it on Saturday… maybe a couple of hours? (A million thanks to M. for her help with this!!!) We made significant progress and came up with an outline that think is going to be immensely helpful. I know that I feel like a big weight has been lifted. I think that you’ll see more “book related” posts in the coming weeks to be sure.

One thing at a time…

Tuesday, October 11th, 2005

It’s really been a bit of a wasted couple of days. I have a little under two hours before I need to be in bed. I’m going to write one thing down and then do that for the next two hours. We’ll see what I get done.

    Do dishes | done
Prep trash to take out tomorrow | done
Finish vacuuming / put away vacuum | done
Put away any remaining clothes | done
Prep dry cleaning for drop off tomorrow morning | done
Tidy cabinet next to couch | done
Tidy top of entertainment cabinet | done
Empty small trash cans | done
Clear small pile in living room | done
    Email B. / Email G. | done
    Prep Deposit | done
Put video camera on charger | done

Time to call it quits for the evening. It’s helpful to approach things in this manner at times I think. Each task is clear cut and you can point to a definite “I did this” list when you’re through.

Thursday, August 11th, 2005

It’s been a while since I’ve written down “hard target” goals for the week. I was gunshy about making promises to myself and then not meeting them. From now on I’m going to keep this weekly posting simple. I’ll start the week with very specific hard target goals. They might only be for a part of the week, or even one day. For example, my “hard target goal” for next week might be “Get up before 7 a.m. on Monday and Tuesday”. On Tuesday evening I’d look at my developing schedule for the rest of the week and either add a new goal of “Getting up at 7 a.m. or earlier” for Wed/Thurs/Frid, or I might decide to give myself a “day off” from getting up at 7 a.m. or earlier. The concept is that I will only make goals that I am absolutely committed to achieving. Just like lifting weights I need to start small at first. To that end…

Sleep
Get up by 7 a.m. or earlier on Thurs/Fri

Music
Schedule a voice lesson for Monday Friday next this week | (done)
Play guitar for 30 minutes on Thurs/Fri/Sun
Sing for 30 minutes on Thurs/Fri

Acting
I mail/email headshots & resumes to all the Backstage ads that I’m eligible for by Saturday afternoon.

Just as a bookkeeping thing I’ll probably denote additions to goals throughout the week by a | mark.

Reminder to self: Only write down things here that you are absolutely committed to achieving. You can always add more goals at any time during the week. This gets you thinking in smaller chunks and building on successes.

Time to send this into the wild…

Organize

  • Left Closet Drawers: Assess / Sort
  • Stuff Under Bed: Assess / Sort
  • Shoes in Left Closet: Assess / Sort

New Habits (Potential)
Let’s try something different this week. Last week I said “Do “x” activity for “x” amount of time on “X”, “Y”, and “Z” days. This week I’ll make the number of days the goal, and fit them in organically. I’m purposely leaving the amounts of time blank on these things. It’s easier to build on success than it is to build on failure. I’m trying to set myself up to succeed.

  • Play trombone at least 3 days this week.
  • Play bass at least 3 days this week.
  • Sing at least 2 days this week.
  • Play guitar at least 2 days this week.
  • Do voice/speech at least 2 days this week.
  • Transcribe one 30 second commecial

These things I send out into the Universe:

  • I have a photo-page for my main website that is easy to update, scaleable, exportable (if necessary) as new and better archiving/display systems come along. I can store comment data on my photos in such a way that this information is easily ported to future systems.
  • I have a consistent sleep schedule that is healthy and that works for me.
  • I cook healthy meals for myself quickly and efficiently.
  • I track my finances efficiently and effectively. This information gives me a greater grasp of my current financial situation, and allows me to greatly inprove my financial situation.
  • I maintain successful morning and evening routines that are heatlhy and effective for me.
  • I implement my evening and morning routines Monday-Thursday & Saturday-Sunday.
  • I sleep in my bed Monday-Sunday. (No sleeping on the couch…).
  • I file things on my computer in my A-Z filing system as I work throughout the day, ending each day with a clear desktop. I regularly assess my filing system and discard any files that are no longer valid or refile as needed.
  • I exercise my upper body for 20 minutes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday and my core muscles on Tuesday & Thursday.
  • I have a published beginning practice method
  • I have a published advanced practice method
  • I support myself with increasing prosperity

Music – Creative

Not sure what I’ll put here, but I’m including it as a possible category. This is where I’ll take the baby steps of developing my songwriting, writing my book, developing my skills on various instruments, etc.

Music – Business

This would be a section that includes gig development. Songwriting development (getting my songs out there, developing contacts/collaborations, etc.). Again, not sure what I’ll be putting it here, but it’s coming together in my mind as a way to organize the pieces of my life.

Organize

  • Eliminate “Sort/File/or Discard” folder on desktop (7.2 MB)
  • Assess the contents of my existing A-Z filing system on my main HD. (Are these things filed in a way that I will be able to maintain and remember?) Discard any files that are no longer valid. Refile as needed.

  • Sleep in my bed Monday-Sunday. (No sleeping on the couch…).
